old video camera

How can i get video from my old school video camera to my computer?

It all depends on the camera really. If you have A/V cables for the camera then you could hook it up to your DVD player (if it has a DVD burner in it) and make a DVD. Then take the DVD and put it onto your computer (If you have a DVD-ROM and DVD software).

Or if you don’t have the cables, you could have the tape (If it’s VHS, VHS-C, Hi-8, 8mm, etc) converted to DVD and then put it onto your computer.

Don’t believe the hype

Although this camera may look cute, fun, and productive, it’s not. I only gave it 2 stars because it can take videos.

The video quality is poor, if not terrible. Everything’s so blurry, it doesn’t do well with movement… It’s a surprise I was able to figure out what was going on in the video. Not to mention the screen was practically microscopic.

And I’m sure you’ve read that it has its own USB port, so you can upload things straight from the camera to the internet. Well, mine wouldn’t. And the help-line is anything but helpful. They give long, complicated instructions that don’t work. After about three different Flip Camcorder people giving me useless instructions, one of which actually made me lose some videos on my camcorder, I gave up. If you were planning to take videos with this camera and upload them to the internet hassle-free, I suggest you think again.

Also, every button you press on that thing is slow. As soon as I got it, everything took at least 15 seconds. If you don’t mind waiting that long to switch to a different video, then you’re in luck.

And the battery life… Oh, the battery life! That was probably the worst thing of all. It runs out after about 30 minutes or so, and it takes 2 double-A batteries to get it going again. It just eats through them! This is what eventually made me stop using it, because I couldn’t afford buying a pack of batteries every couple of days.

It also has nothing cool about taking videos. Basically, you can take a half-hour of video and then watch it. I guess the ease of acccess is okay, but its kind of confusing at first, because not only do the buttons each do a totally different thing, but many of them have two or three functions, that you have to try to put the buttons in the sequences to get the correct function.

Really, the only good thing about this camera is that you it’s small. A true waste of my money. You can get a camera that takes picture, video, accepts memory chips, has a 2.7″ screen, and has way better picture quality for the same-or cheaper-price. Really, I’m serious. Don’t waste your money on this piece of junk.

I love this. I use it to pick up B role in all of my filming. The quality is great.

IT WON’T TURN ON.

by Connie Urquhart from Wethersfield, CT, US on 2010-08-01
I’ve had it since the spring of 2009. I’d recorded under an hour and downloaded that onto my computer. When I tried to see the video; it was out of sequence and jumbled. I emailed for help and was given complicated instructions, which I didn’t have time to implement.

I added a few more shots of donations.

Recently, I put new batteries in it, but it won’t turn on. It makes a blip sound, with a blue screen that says Flip video; but that’s all it will do. I can’t even turn it off, without removing the batteries.

I paid between $150 & $200, for so little return, but a lot of aggrivation.

I bought my second flip video about 3 years ago and it is still in working condition today. This little guy has had drum sticks thrown at it in the band room, binders crushing it in my back pack for at least 3 months, waves splashing, dropped, picked up, dropped again… my Flip Ultra has handled just about anything; so a thousand stars for durability! On the other hand… my Flip has crashed countless times, which is fixed simply by taking batteries out and putting them back in, but it is a hassle. I though about the fact that maybe my flip just isn’t converting the batteries efficiently, but i am pretty sure the staticy screens aren’t just from battery shortage. Video quality is decent for simple home videos, but if you are interested in making fun movies, I would think about other options. Downloading video footage is simple as pie, but the sound quality of the videos is greatly disappointing. Now, all of this coming from a girl whose flip’s lens has a big ol crack right in the middle keep in mind. Overall the flip is a great device and a great concept, but if you are really interested in quality, maybe you should check out one of the newer flip products, or invest in a really nice camcorder, that might not have the portability. Have fun filming :D

I use this mainly to make short clips that I upload to youtube. It fits in your backpack, purse, or even your shirt pocket. It’s nice to have this around when something intersting or ugent is happening, like a robbery or assult. And kind of makes you an amateur reporter. I’d talk to restaurant owners and store managers about how they run the shop, and some crazy fans after a sports event. Pretty sweet camera, video quality is averge, it’s not high definition, but who really needs HD, it’s such a bandwidth killer anyway.

Another click and you’re listening to your station again. You can even rewind as far back as 15 minutes, then fast-forward to catch up to the live broadcast. iTunes Tagging–the New-Fashioned Way to Discover Music It’s quite a dilemma: You’re listening to the radio and you hear a song you like, but when you go to iTunes, you can’t remember the name or even who sings it. Enter iTunes Tagging. Now, you can use the Click Wheel on iPod nano to tag the song. iTunes creates a list of all your tagged songs so you can easily preview or purchase them when you sync iPod nano to iTunes. VoiceOver–the Talk of the Music World VoiceOver tells you the title and artist of the songs you listen to. And does it so seamlessly, you’ll be surprised at how brilliant it is. Let’s Talk VoiceOver What if you’re listening to a song and want to know the title or the artist? Just use the Click Wheel or the controls on the optional Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic and VoiceOver tells you the song name and who’s performing it without interrupting your music. So you’re never distracted from your ride or run by looking down at your screen. The nano now includes an FM radio with iTunes Tagging and Live Pause functions. Capture a thought, a reminder, a class lecture, or any audio recording you want with Voice Memos. The new Pedometer counts every step you take. Or add Nike+ shoes and a Nike + iPod Sport Kit for the perfect workout partner. How it Works You’ll notice how smoothly and easily VoiceOver works. A lot of thought went into creating an iPod nano that not only talks, but says the right things. It all begins with iTunes and its seamless integration with iPod nano. First, iTunes reads your song information, then uses the VoiceOver Kit to generate the announcements for the songs, artists, and playlists. Just sync your iPod nano to your computer and it really speaks to you. It Speaks Multiple Languages Your music library has songs from all over the world–a love song from France, a bolero from Spain, a pop tune from Japan. Luckily, VoiceOver speaks fluent song. iTunes selects the language and best voice for your song titles and artist names. It looks at song data, like the title, artist, and album information, then applies intelligent algorithms to choose the right language. For example, iTunes recognizes the song “Ya Viene el Sol by Ozomatli as a Spanish song, so your iPod nano will automatically speak that song title and artist in Spanish. If you prefer to hear that information spoken in another language, you can change the designated VoiceOver language for that song in iTunes. Hit the Ground Running–Or Walking With the Nike + iPod Sport Kit (sold separately) and a built-in pedometer to help keep you motivated and track your fitness progress, iPod nano makes working out less routine. Step it up with the New Pedometer You take your iPod nano with you everywhere. Why not use it to stay fit? iPod nano now doubles as a Pedometer. It uses the built-in accelerometer to keep track of your steps and help you meet your fitness goals. You can create a daily step goal or set it to Always On so it counts all the steps you take, all the time. Which makes iPod nano the ideal exercise partner. Rock and Run Your shoes and your iPod nano team up to maximize your run. See the minutes tick by. Watch the miles unfold. Hear real-time voice feedback. All to your favorite music, including your chosen Power Song–that one song that always gets you through the home stretch. Rock the Gym Take Nike + iPod to the gym and minute by minute, mile by mile, you’re motivated by more than music. Connect your iPod nano to a Nike + iPod compatible cardio machine. It’s an iPod… what else is there to say?

by Rosa from Boston, MA on 2010-09-07
I’ve been hooked on iPods since my first “iPod photo”. This is my first smaller-sized iPod, though–I’ve always gone for the bigger types before, but wanted something that I could strap to my arm.

There are tons of reviews already, so I’ll just add what I thought was the most ‘different’ about these compared to ones I’ve used in the past:
1. There’s a motion sensor (I forgot what they are called) that changes the display based on whether you have the screen straight up or tilted to the side, etc. While this is a cool new feature, I’ve found it to actually be more of an annoyance than something ‘useful’ and, if given the choice, would probably disable it. First of all, if you don’t lock the iPod, and are, for example, running, the shaking motion will actually activate shuffle (sometimes) and your song will change suddenly. Also, sometimes the sensor will lag, and your song title won’t show up right away (if it is tilted to the side, your albums covers come up).
2. Apple, at some point, changed their connections so if you have an iHome (or other such speaker device), it might not be able to ‘charge’ this generation of iPods. I was sorely disappointed by this, as it meant an extra $70+ cost to replace my speaker, even though it was working perfectly.

Overall, I’m happy with my purchase, and the quality of the iPod itself. (The pink is so pretty!!!). Marking it down for the minor annoyances, although I guess they don’t actually affect how good the product is (overall). Hopefully the next model will be more to my liking?

not the newest model

by Joseph Polino from florida on 2010-09-06
If I new a newer model was due out this week, I would not have bought this one. The new model is smaller and they have done away with the click wheel, I hate the click wheel! There is nothing wrong or bad about this model other than its not the newest model out there. Its my own fault for not researching better befor my purchase. For the same price you can buy the new nano model which has all the same features, is smaller, and with a touch screen (no more click wheel). No reason to buy this OLDER model unless they drop the price on it significantly.

This 5th gen is the best nano yet! I love the video camera and microphone, comes in handy for unexpected need for video or voice files. This ipod nano holds all my music in such a slim design.I have nothing but praise for this ipod, I use it at the gym or when power walking. Radio also comes in handy!

Great Product, but with the potential for a serious bug…

by C. Krubeck from on 2010-09-06
First of all, let me say that this isn’t my first ipod. I’ve updated this from an old video ipod that unfortunately took a nasty fall and broke.

The ipod itself is great, it’s got a lot of nice user interface features. It’s easy to browse music, find artists, etc. Audio quality and quality of construction are all great. The old annoyance of the headphone jack being next to the usb still means you can’t charge the ipod and listen to it with certain headphones but these are all fairly minor issues.

The video functionality is pretty much useless, but may be good for dumb laughs. I personally only use my ipod for music so I couldn’t care less. However, since the 4g nanos now cost more than the new generation you might as well get this one.

NOW THE BAD STUFF:

The main issue with this ipod that you may or may not care about is there’s a well known bug regarding syncing from the ipod -> itunes. For those of us who organize our playlists and music by playcount or rating, there is a possibility that when you’ve spent all day listening to your music NONE of the information will transfer back to itunes. Again, if you’re someone who organizes music this way, it is infuriating. Apple has taken an official stance of denying a problem exists as well so don’t expect a bug fix anytime soon or if they do they probably wont tell anyone.

I’ve just replaced one ipod that had this issue and I’m currently experiencing no problems with the new one, but it is a common problem so buyer beware. If this problem does not persist, I will update this review in 2 weeks (that’s when apple’s return policy runs out) and say that everything is great and change this to a four star review. Until then, Apple has crippled a piece of functionality between this generation and the one before it and have done nothing to fix it.

Great Ipod with so many new features!

by Noreen A. Morris from ny on 2010-09-05
This is a keeper and for the price–you get so much. Love how simple taking great shots or videos is with this. The external speakers and cover flow makes sharing and watching a breeze. The FM radio gets tons of stations and the little extras are so easy to locate and actually use. Calandar, contacts, alarm, stop watch and even a pedometer!
You may even catch me playing a game on this every now and then. My main use was for cardio and audio books–but I find I am taking more videos with this than my JVC Everio HD camcorder.
Quite a bit of fun for the money!!

Record your pace, time, and distance as you work out. With iPod nano, every trip to the gym becomes a new challenge. Sync When you’re finished, connect your iPod nano to your Mac or PC. iTunes automatically sends your workout data to nikeplus.com. Every workout and every run is there, ready for you to review. Get pumped for your next run with recommended challenges, custom training programs, and maps of new routes to try. Or share motivation with runners across the world. Don’t believe the hype

by from on 2010-08-23
Although this camera may look cute, fun, and productive, it’s not.

Will Live Longer Than Cockroaches

by J. Lazar from Maitland, FL on 2010-07-31
I bought my second flip video about 3 years ago and it is still in working condition today.

Simple way to make home movie

I use this mainly to make short clips that I upload to youtube. It fits in your backpack, purse, or even your shirt pocket. It’s nice to have this around when something intersting or ugent is happening, like a robbery or assult. And kind of makes you an amateur reporter. I’d talk to restaurant owners and store managers about how they run the shop, and some crazy fans after a sports event. Pretty sweet camera, video quality is averge, it’s not high definition, but who really needs HD, it’s such a bandwidth killer anyway.

Don’t believe the hype

by from on 2010-08-23
Although this camera may look cute, fun, and productive, it’s not.

Note to Self: Voice Memos Are Here The built-in mic lets you capture a thought, a reminder, a class lecture, or any audio recording you want with Voice Memos. iTunes: Your Greatest Hits It’s even easier to organize, browse, grow, and share your digital music and video collection with the new iTunes. And now you can save items with a wish list and enjoy iTunes extras–bonus features on select albums and movies–like lyrics, photos, interviews, and behind-the-scenes media.

No reason to buy this OLDER model unless they drop the price on it significantly.

the little ipod that could
