I bought the X-Grip for camcorder use. It was shipped fast and arrived in perfect condition. I appreciate the simple, uncluttered, straightforward design which was executed with quality materials. Attaching it to the camcorder is swift and easy, and the X-Grip can even be attached to a tripod or other mount when operating the camcorder. The heavy-duty accessory shoe can be detached. The grip of the unit is heavily padded and comfortable to use. Small built-in ‘loops’ at the top and bottom of the mount can be used to attach additional accessories via zip-ties or other field expedients. The X-Grip is constructed from very heavy duty plastic and is robust enough to withstand many years of service. I heartily recommend this unit to all active videographers who want bang for their bucks.

like many who purchase this, i film skateboarding. i have a nikon d5000. for a dslr, this helps a lot with stabilization because you have to hold a dslr differently than a camcorder. i recommend this if you have one. also id your camera has bad sound quality you should buy an external mic and put it on top.also obviously a good fisheye with a wide angle close to 180 degrees. its very high quality and worth themoney i definately recommend buying it for a dslr

Also good for small camcorders

I looked all around for a small case for my High Def camcorder. I have the Sony HDR-CX100. (Great camcorder BTW). The problem with all cases that are intended to fit the camcorder is that they are too big. I can’t understand why you would go to the trouble of getting a small camcorder and then put it in a large camera case/bag !! The irony is that all the reviews for cases that are designed for the smaller camcorders gripe that those very cases are too small !! THEY ARE HUGE !! I got the Sony LCM-AX1 — it is HUGE !! I tried the Sony LCS-SRC —- again — humongous !! The premise is all wrong…All I want is a case that protects my camera and allows me to benefit from the small camera. Simple concept. I dream of a day when someone designs a hard clam shell form fitted case – like a guitar case – for these small camera’s. Wouldn’t that be great !!! But no – no – no – none are available. (I feel better now – I’m vented).

Now this case works – but it is crammed in there like a fat man in a pair of biker shorts. Not a pretty site. But just like the fat man after a 5 mile ride – it works. Also it will only work with the small regular sized battery that comes with the camcorder – there is no room for a bigger battery to fit.

Fits the S-series Cybershot

This carry bag also works well for the S-series Cybershot. There is a pocket at the back of the bag where the camera fits nice and snug. The front pocket has a little mesh pouch which is good for holding 2 sets of batteries, and there’s an additional slim pocket which could house a memory card or something similar in size. Includes a shoulder strap and can also be worn on your belt. There is a snap button so that you don’t have to take your belt off to put on the bag, just unsnap the button and affix it over your belt, then snap the button closed. The look of the bag is nice (looks like the photo Amazon has displayed) and seems to provide ample protection.

I bought this case for my new Cybershot H20. Although it isn’t designed for this model, the camera fits securely (it’s very snug), and the case is less bulky than the one designed for the H-series cameras. (I think the H20 is the smallest of them).
There isn’t any room for the cables and charger, but you can fit memory sticks and a spare battery in the front pouches.

Works great with Canon HV30

I use this all the time. I even use it when I put my camera on a tripod. I pretty much leave this on my HV30 at all times. I like the location of the top mount for my Rode shotgun mic or LED light. I also like that you can attach a tripod shoe on the bottom screw that secures your camera to the grip. The little feet on the bottom of the grip have allowed me to shoot some low level shots by sitting the grip on the ground. Without this I would have just set my camera in the dirt to get the same shot and that’s not real good. I wouldn’t buy it expecting it to function as a steady cam/motion stabilizer, but for a convenience grip it’s cool. I haven’t figured a way to use it when shooting high though. It needs a shoulder attachment of some kind even if sold separately.

This thing made life so much easier. I didn’t have to worry so much about where I set the camera down, the feet held it in place, even on slippery rock. I used it to film an RC rock crawling competition, and the handle of the X-Grip allowed me to get some great angles and low shots. It makes the footage so much more dynamic. It takes a little to get used to when you are trying to zoom in and out, getting a good angle on the camera controls while holding it is a little tricky at first. But you will get used to it pretty quickly and it’s not an issue after that. It held the camera securely, I never felt it was going to fall off, and the different placement options was perfect to find the best balancing point for my camcorder. One of the best purchases I will ever make for my camcorder.

Much better than I expected

I am a film student and I needed to buy a decent stabilizer for a shoot. I used tripods, but I wanted something that I could use that would offer versatility and free movement. I took the chance and ordered this stabilizer and boy, was I ever so glad I did!!! This is not just for extreme sports or skateboarding, this is very durable and affordable for anyone to use.

I looked at several stabilizers and mostly all of them were easily over $100 or close to it. Also, many of them looked way too bulky. The first thing that caught my attention was the price. I knew that I would not really know what I thought about it until I bought it.

What I really like about this is that it isn’t too big or awkward looking. It’s lightweight and you can add lights or microphone to it. I have a LED high light mounted to mine and I love it! I was able to get excellent low angles and could easily flow around with little to no camera shake. I was so impressed!

And here’s the HUGE plus…you can mount it to any tripod and you do not have to take your camera off the stabilizer!!! It’s also great to use if you have a small space to shoot in.

The stabilizer isn’t just for camcorders! You can also mount your DSLR to it as well.

If you aren’t sure, at least try it out. It’s a great piece of equipment, especially for film students, because it is affordable.

****[Side note] If you have a few more bucks to spend on an excellent stabilizer, try looking into the Hague Mini Motion-Cam at: [...].

This particular stabilizer will set you back only about $82 give or take and you can also check out the video on YouTube. I wish I would have known about this while I was in class…but, having the Opteka X-Grip served its purpose during that time.

Made entirely of plastic, but still usable for a 7d

Bought this for my Canon 7d (5-7 lb. camera). It is made entirely of plastic, (not sure what I was expecting) but does not fall apart or wobble unacceptably.

Very Handy Accessory – Highly Recommended!

The “Opteka X-GRIP” is a surprisingly versatile tool for hand-held video shooters. Since we professionally produce instructional videos (some are available on Amazon), most of our videos are fairly static and taken from fixed tripod positions, but on occasion we do location shoots that require moving the camera to get better perspectives. The X-Grip greatly increases the shooting options and usability of the footage by allowing for lower camera positions and greater stability over normal hand-held camera work. Here are my observations:

Pros:
+ Adjustable Mount; we have used this with everything from a Flip MinoHD (needed a washer to make it tight) to a Canon HV40
+ Extra Hot-Shoe; handy if your camera doesn’t have one, we have used both regular and IR video lights with good results
+ Good Stabilization; makes getting usable Point-of-View (POV) shots much easier than using purely hand-held camera work

Cons:
- Mounting Threads are a little longer than expected, not a problem on most of my equipment and easy to workaround

This is a very handy accessory that exceeded my expectations!

I would not buy one again

Strap design wouldn’t really ever get fully secure on my helmet, though it didn’t matter because one crash and the plastic ribs in the middle tore right off. I know you want to have a weak link somewhere, and better on that than your camera, but maybe a detachable design or something with a little more thought. It also did not offer much in regards to adjustment with the “rocker plate”. In the end, I still love my Vholdr camera, but I got little use out of this cam mount before it was completely toast.

Two thumbs down for a badly designed product.

Do Not Buy

As others have stated, the pin that the mount pivots on is not secure on the sides. It can (and did) come free while I was using it and my camera fell and has been damaged. This is a big flaw in the design, and needs to be addressed! I’m going to look for another solution, and hope to hear back from VholdR about repairing my camera….

Pin Broke Off the Base Right Away!!!

Good tilting concept but absolutely poor design and plastic material on the base saddle.
The pin which holds the slider to the base of the mount broke off right after I landed
a jump off a 4 feet ramp while snowboarding. The plastic saddle is too weak/thin to hold
the camera securely. The side of the camera touches and exerts some pressure against
the base of the mount which causes the pin to pop out from its saddle.

Don’t buys this! Vholdr makes good cameras but this accessory is absolutely disappointing.
Look elsewhere or wait until they correct and improve this design.

Don’t buy this if you value your camera.

Like another reviewer states, the pin will pop out once any tension is put on the straps. There is no stop for it and you will likely lose your camera. This is a serious design flaw but the tilting concept is good. Luckily mine popped out before I even used it and I promptly made my own mount.

Quality product

The product performed to my expectations. The mount secured easly to my Bell Variant helmit and the camera slid in and held fast in the bracket without any play. The mount can be tilted either up or down, just like Vholdr calims. The seller was very responsive in delivering the devise. I would do business with the product manufacture or this seller again.

Not great for biking (or possibly motocross)

I have the GoPro Hero HD Helmet and I did not like its performance on the helmet. It shook/rattled too much, made the action look very slow, and has clearance problems with brush/trees. To reduce rattle and make the action a bit faster, I’m opting to lower the camera closer to the ground. I went with this since I figured getting my arms and handlebar in the shot would be a cool PoV.

I tried this chest harness for biking (I ride both on and off road) and find that it doesn’t allow enough upward tilt to be used on the bike. You’ll be taking a video of your bike’s front end and your knees unless you ride without hands. As a simple fix, I ended up having to add 2 adjustment legs to get it to tilt back far enough to even get a decent point of view. Now that I got it to get a decent point of view, I notice that it captures a lot of wind noise. It still has issues with shaking and rattling, but not as noticeable as on the helmet.

If the bike mount didn’t get bad reviews for being flimsy, I would’ve liked to try that. I think I’ll get the rollbar mount and see if to mounts to my [front] suspension fork lowers or downtube as an upgrade to this.

Re: Lens killer for some sports

I just wonder if the manufacture of the GoPro could make the ring that surrounds the lens taller and wider so that the lens can be protected from accidental scratches. I learned my lesson the hard way. I was hiking and jumping rocks at the Joshua Tree National Park with the chest mount harness on. An accidental touch with a rock scratched the lens of the camera box and I ended up ordering the replacement lens kit. Well, just be careful while wearing it. I got great video clips though.

I recently purchased an GoPro HD helmet-cam and this mount has made my skiing video’s look stable as compared to using the helmet or head band mount that’s included in the package. I guess its skiing style but I tend to move my head around more often then my chest. My chest is typically looking downhill in the direction of the fall line making for a stable platform keeping my viewers from getting sick. This is an accessory item that you should consider purchasing if you like making skiing or biking video’s. I’m a big guy (6ft 225lbs)so I was concerned about this thing fitting me but to my pleasure I found that the straps are adjustable, stretch & a buckle next to the camera mount makes for quick removal. Also, it’s easy to turn the camera on and start a video shoot with the camera being so close to your chest. I highly recommend using one of these if you want stable looking video’s. I give it a thumbs up!

Great, simple mount

This is a great mount for any activity where you are facing forward. It is not so great for sideways facing activities (aka snowboarding, skateboarding). It is very comfortable and well made. It does what it should.

GoPro Chest Mount Harness

This is great – I’ve used it on Carribean Beaches, the beaches on the East Coast, beaches, inclement weather. Everytime with fantastic results.

You can do everything with the case on – even rotate the little knob between still/video/review. It’s balanced so the float that comes with it wil let it float on the surfac of the water.

A must if you want a compact underwater camera in virtually any conditions.

Nicely designed product. The float that comes with it does a nice job and water never entered the case. The only problem was the previously stated problem seeing the screen through the case. Underwater this was a problem sometimes in the brighter areas of the water but the pictures came out just fine. I had this attached to my wrist when I went Boogie boarding and body surfing in Wailea and it took a pounding but never let a drop in.

We brought the camera all over Maui in the case and shot lots of photos and the quality of the glass on the lens is very good. There isn’t any noticeable difference in any of the “dry” pictures that I took on land.

Great price on amazon for a great product.
