Is it illegal to have security cameras that monitor a restaurant in your home?

I have been working on a breakfast restaurant in the last month and recently I discovered that the owner of the restaurant has security cameras in home to watch the restaurant. I heard this is illegal but I'm not sure can anyone confirm if it is illegal or not? Thank you.

The most likely legal. The only thing I can disagree with a law is being monitored from a private home and if that is his own restaurant, which is probably right. If chambers were controlled by the office of the directors, there would be no doubt whatsoever. The only areas where it would be illegal to have a camera that bathrooms and a locker if you have one. Those are the only places where you have an expectation and right to privacy when at work.

Security Cameras

Security cameras were perhaps initially welcomed to keep a vigil on the thieves and shoplifters concern large areas where it was difficult for a person to keep an eye. He gained immense popularity and soon they were everywhere, from public places to schools Many schools hospitals etc in these chambers tapes later helped in identifying the thieves sometimes small or even large time bank robbers.

However, in these days, taking into account the international security threats, security cameras have gained a new meaning to the set. Today, security cameras have become an absolute necessity to track and possible terrorist threats and are being used strictly in all possible terrorist attacks sensitive place in the country. The recent terrorist attacks around the country have led to a growing need for security cameras and installation.

Apart from security applications Domestically, these cameras are used by a variety of businesses to its internal security as well. Banks, schools, shops, department stores, hospitals and large organizations corporate all use of these cameras to keep an eye on the daily operations and to identify any criminal, even from a distance.

There are cameras wireless security systems, CCTV camera, spy cameras and video surveillance systems available in the form of security cameras. All major brands e as Panasonic, Sony, Canon, etc. have taken a step in the market for security cameras and devices provide very good at affordable prices. Axis is another name popular security cameras, and offers some interesting features.

There are some things you should consider when buying a security camera. First all, identifying the magnitude of their need for a security camera. Ie the size of the area is needed for the camera. This will help you decide what type of camera to go. Then think about the kind of features you expect from your camera to help in the security of your organization. For example, all security cameras offer playback, but some of them provide the simultaneous playback of four shots. What kind of features that require camera to help you decide the size of the camera to buy.

It is also necessary to clarify whether you need an indoor or outdoor one security camera, as there are different cameras to evoke. A chamber is made more manageable, while an external camera is equipped to deal to environments with dust, wind and humidity. Outdoor cameras are naturally more robust and stable. inner tubes are smaller and not screaming for their own visibility.

To check the wide range of Security Houses you can enter a place for purchasing and / portal to compare and learn firsthand the features, functionality and price comparison. More than that, online shopping portals also provide some very good offers and you can get the safety device in a much lower price than the market. EXCEPTIONAL PRODUCT FOR THE $$$... SOME ASSEMBLY MAY BE REQUIRED BUT NO BIG DEAL... DO NOT INSTALL BATTERY, EXCELLENT DETERRENT IF PLACED CORRECTLY, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Sec Cam

by tomki from on 2010-08-02
The LED is a bit brite for nighttime, so it was toned down a bit.
Otherwise, it is noticeable, and a potential deterrant from even trying to get into my house.
I got 2 & installed them at a corner of my house. That way the side and back can be "monitored".

Dollar product

by sparkynum1 from on 2010-07-22
Without the batteries installed this does have a real look to it. I can tell you that I'm disappointed at the cost, this is something that probably should be on the shelf at the dollar store. I ordered 4 of these as a gag for work. They all shipped together in the same box, but one was so damaged it was trash immediately out of the box.

As a gag, it worked and has been enjoyable. Now that I've had it and have seen how cheeply made it is, it's way over priced but still the cheapest one of Amazon.

Product as described

by AP from on 2010-07-20
This serves its purpose for me... it's mounted high enough that I doubt anyone would really be able to tell it is not the real thing. LED light is a nice effect.

Should have known better.

by Robin from Orlando, Florida on 2010-07-10
I was looking to place a dummy dome camera in the ceiling of our shop where we do not have one hooked up yet. The pictures on Amazon (of this dummy dome camera) looked pretty good... but wait. The actual thing wouldn't fool a blind man. It might as well have a "flashing red LED" that says "FAKE".

I feel pretty stupid about this, I should have known that if the price was "cheap", the end product WOULD BE CHEAP. When it comes to security, there is no substitute for the real thing.

Limitations

by James O. Davis from Brandon, MS USA on 2010-08-07
The problem with this camera is that there is no option for a wired power supply. A battery running out in 2 months is inadequate especially when mounted high up in a rather inaccessible location. Who want's to go up there and change batteries every 2 months?

Looks authentic

by Ted D. Hadley from on 2010-07-29
Picked these up for a back gate. Combined it with a "24 Hour Video Surveillance" sign. It looks very authentic and even has a small red LED. It's battery operated but lasts a long time due to the low power consumption of the LED. It's also very sturdy. No complaints at all.

Authentic looking, could be a tad cheaper

by Abraham Kurian from USA on 2010-01-23
I got 2 of these. Installing (i mean screwing this up ;-) was a breeze. Very original and with the sticker that comes in the box..it can wave of a petty thief of two !
The only flip side is the price of it. I would have loved it for around $15 per camera...but I guess the quality speaks for itself.

As good as stated.

by D. M. Pepper from on 2010-06-03
So far I have bought seven of these cameras .To date they all have preformed well with the exception of the last one I installed today. It had a cystal clear picture on it during the day but tonight has a little RF drift that is rolling over the screen.I had these professionally installed so it could be that this camera was installed with some part of the connection not shielded well.I will call the installer tomorrow to see.I have one that hasn't been installed yet so actually the only review I can give on these is on six of the ones installed. I give these camera's an A+ for performance and price.Better than most and maybe as good or not as good as higher priced. Not sure because I have only owned on very high priced camera.Price on that one was 3000.00 but it wss a ptz and I expected it to be way better .Anyway over all the camera's are as stated in their decripition and overall im delighted with them ,so much I bought one to start with and so far have bought an additional six.

Fire Hazard

by Philip Fleming from Orlando, FL, US on 2010-04-07
When I opened the box and started to put the camera components together I smelled the tell-tale odor of an electrical short circuit. As the power cord exits the transformer to power the camera, the insulation was torn allowing the cooper to be exposed. This allowed the two wires to cross and short circuit. I contacted the manufacturer and they sent me a new transformer. This one also had the cooper exposed as it exited the strain relief. I contact them again, they sent another transformer that had the same manufacturing flaw. They seemed to have drawn the line at replacing the faulty transformer only twice. This is the response I got from Daniel P at customer support:

"I have been informed that all the adapters for this product will have some copper coil that is visible through slots in the actual adapter."

Evidently they don't understand that the cooper that's exposed is outside the protection of the transformer case making this a fire hazard.

Good only if you schedule the activity you are trying to catch.

by kevinbama from alabama on 2010-03-19
I bought one of these due to increased overall "hope and change" related criminal activity lately. I read the reviews on Amazon and pulled the trigger. I was initially blown away. The picture is excellent during daylight and way better than expected at night. I have this teamed with the SVAT CVP800 mini DVR. All was well.....for a while. After about two weeks, the unit would just stop producing video. If unplugged, then plugged back up, it will begin to work again. But only temporarily. Sometimes it will work fine for four or five days, and sometimes just a couple of hours. Unplug it, plug it back up, cross your fingers, and hope for the best. Once it stops working, it will stay dead until it is powered down, then back up. So, if you can schedule the criminal mischief around your property to coincide with the times this thing works, it is an excellent purchase. Otherwise, it is just one of those fake/dummy cameras. I probably just got a lemon and could be more forgiving, if it weren't for SVAT's customer service. I called them, hoping to hear something like "Send it back. When we receive it, we'll ship you another." However, when contacted, they gave me a "return authorization" number and said "we will evaluate it, determine if it is covered under warranty, repair it and send it back in four to six weeks." "If it is determined to not be warranty related, we will repair it for fifty dollars an hour." Wow, thanks! It's obvious that SVAT is concerned about my happiness with their product. NOT! I guess I'll send the thing back for them to tinker with, once I buy a camera (not an SVAT) that actually works. Anyone have a recommendation for a more reliable camera? In the meantime, I'll just hope any video-worthy activity that happens around here, happens when the CV31 isn't on one of its many "coffee breaks".

Low light viewing is completely UNUSEABLE

by NeoEngineer from on 2010-09-05
the night mode on this sucks REALLY BAD, pretty much unuseable, but the day mode is decent. the built in server is fairly easy to setup. the layout and gui are atrocious though, not very user friendly. a weird, unknown plugin is required to be installed on all browsers for the streaming to work. luckily, the server inside the camera sends it to the client browser so you don't have to google it. if you don't install the plugin, all you get are image refreshes.

the panning feature is cool. the built in power over ethernet adapter is cool. the h.264 codec is the smart way to go. you can view this camera on any Android or iPhone flawlessly but it won't stream cuz it's not using Flash. but there may be an Android version of the weird @$$ plugin the server software uses to stream h.264 video. they should've just used flash media server, it supports h.264 video and you can easily find Flash in the Android Market and install it.

panasonic should make an sdk for the server software because individuals can use flash media server for free to stream video, but companies have to pay for the license which is $$$. but that's how it is for almost all software, companies subsidize the cost. it would be cool if i could install flash media server on this and have it stream to my Android phone (iPhone doesn't support Flash yet).

4.5/5 stars if you don't care to see things at night.

3/5 stars if you care about night view.

Best you can get at this price

by Brian Gouge from Salt Lake City, UT USA on 2010-09-01
The MPEG-4 and H.264 are very clear (as clear as 640x480 can be). If you need more than 2 people to be able to watch it, you'll have to not use H.264. The MJPEG is quite a bandwidth hog on LAN, so if you expect to monitor this remotely you would best try to use the more efficient H.264 or at least MPEG-4.

If it bothers you to have to switch resolution every time you open it, then set it the way you want it (640x480, etc), then create a favorite and/or desktop icon with the big long address box contents and it will open that way every time.

The low light isn't spectacular but it's better than I get with my Logitech Pro 9000 webcam. It's better to see some things really grainy than to see nothing.

The zoom is client-side, you can see when others move the camera but not when others use the mouse wheel to zoom in, it's not an optical zoom..

The audio works great and there is a configuration for 3 microphone sensitivity levels. Programming the presets sent me to the manual but it's not hard once you see how to do it (the Program button above the presets, when logged in as admin).

I have not, and will not, install any included software, so my review is limited to what you can do just accessing the camera via a web browser.

Great for the price, other reviews accurate overall

by shtojo from on 2010-08-27
Great camera for the price (I paid 129). Poor low light as others have said. Good picture and color in normal light. Great access and control from on-site or remotely. One thing I was unsure about from the instructions and other reviews though... I needed the trigger actions to be independent (I wanted to set it up so when motion is detected, it would send one photo to my cell phone and then send repeated photos to a different email account. Turns out you can do this and can specify unique email addresses for each trigger, so I set up two motion triggers (using the built-in pir heat/motion sensor... not the image-monitoring motion detection) each with a different email account and other settings and it works very well. I also chose this model because it supports SSL unlike most other cams and also provides free dns service for remote access.

Great camera esp if you know what you're looking for

by Gary H from CA USA on 2010-06-12
I've been looking to pick up a new IP camera that supports Pan and tilt. I just recently remodeled a house in which I ran cat5e wires to every corner of the house. I did not run any power lines out to the cat5e so I wanted some kind of POE (power over ethernet) camera. I did run fishing line out with the cat 5e just in case I ended up using my old non-POE ip camera (Airlink SkyIPCam 250 and the 250W) so I could pull the power cords/jack through the wall with the fishing line, but I know I'm going to literally run into snags doing this and the line may break. We just stucco the house so getting the actual plug through the wall may be an issue down the line.

I just saw the price drop from $180 to $155 on the C210a and saw a used one being sold my Amazon. I took a chance and a leap of faith and bought a used BL-C210A. I decided to go with wired connection because I've had issues with wireless ip cams before and if you read reviews of any wireless cameras, they _ALL_ have issues. With a hardwired connection I will have eliminated the most problematic issues of wireless security cameras: video drop outs, connection drop outs, etc.

Since I did some research on this camera I know it does not have good night vision - none at all. And people have issues with setting this camera up on Macs and also setting up port forwarding. I also know it does not come with ethernet cables. So will I be disappointed?

I got this camera last night and it looked almost brand new, but I can tell it was used. The question for me? Will it work? After going through the part list it seems like I got everything. I scrambled to find two ethernet cables and I plugged one into my gigabit switch and the other end to the proprietary POE box. I plug the other cable between the POE box and to the camera. I hear some mechanical whirling noise as the camera centers itself, but I have no idea if I can view video.

I stick in the setup disk, ran the setup program and searched for the camera. It found it with ease. I decided to upgrade the Firmware so I searched for it on the web, downloaded, and extracted it and used the setup program to upgrade the firmware. That was easy. I was wondering if I will run into a snag since most people run into issues setting up this camera. I then had the setup program set up the networking and it told me how I can access the camera locally using my local ip address. I want to set up port forwarding so I can access the camera on the internet so I register on the viewnetcam site and tried setting up the camera without ip4v and ip6v. I'm all set up, but of course port forwarding is not setup so I can't get to the camera from the internet. I decided I should use ip4v to set up port forwarding. I never used this, but it worked and I was able to get on the internet and view my camera! This was just too easy. It might be because I'm in the tech field so setting up stuff on the router and devices on the network is relatively easy. I have a Macbook pro, but I did not try to set up the camera on the mac, but I'm sure I can access the camera with Safari on the Mac.

I tried accessing the my camera on my iphone and my Samsung Innov8 and they work great. You can access the mobile version of the software by appending a "/mobile" to the end of the URL.

My expectations were based on what the camera can and cannot do and I am completely satisified with the camera so I'm giving it a 5 star. I would give it a 4 star if I expected night vision, but I already know it does not have night vision and the sales literature does not mention it.

I like the fact this little unit buffers pictures so you can see action happening before the action starts. With my skyIPcam, when action is detected, you will miss a few frames. The pan and tilt is great and I will probably not get another camera without pan and tilt. I did not test the zoom, but I heard it was digitial so expectations are low here.

The included poe box is great so I don't have to buy a POE injector or router. It's funny, but I bought two cheap POE dlink router last year from Fry's for $20/ea on clearance.. I returned it two weeks later because I had no need for POE devices. If I had know I would of kept it so I can set up my security system with POE cameras. I went back to Fry's last week and the POE Dlink router was $139 (similiar to what I returned).

Since I've used it for one day my opinion of this camera may change. I'll be back to post anything good or bad about this camera like I've done with my other reviews. So far so good. Great product.

UPDATE: 7/11/10
There is a $70 instant rebate on this camera so I just bought two more! They come out to $129/ea.
Yes, I need a low light camera, but I haven't found one yet that is good at low light and good in the daylight.

BL-210a is a great little IP camera

by Sea Brat from Boston, MA USA on 2010-05-17
The BL-210a worked easily out of the box on my home network. It took me a little more time to get it work remotely and more time to get the email setting correct so it sends me an email based on motion and sound triggers. After I get an email I can go to the Panasonic web site and review the video. I like that you can set the camera to save both pre and post trigger video. I have the camera mounted in a corner near the ceiling. From this location I can use the camera controls to remotely move it to see the entire room. The resolution is great for a PC monitor but does not help to zoom in because it has a digital zoom. This camera gives me a great sense of security when I travel away from my condo.

Cicso WVC210 Wireless Camera

by Mixed Emotions from on 2010-08-24
As noted in the ratings, the camera is well made by a reputable company. Once configured and install most functions work well. The notable operational deficiency is the zoom function. The only zoom is two X and at that focal point the picture is distorted - somewhat pixelized. The picture quality when not in zoom mode is exceptional for the cost of the unit.

The biggest deficiency is the bandwidth horsepower it takes to operate the camera. A minimum speed DSL connection will not work. Also there are some issues related to connecting to Cisco E-x000 series routers. Again the problem is bandwidth. Cisco small business support was top notched to try to get the configuration working, but lacks lab testing capability with consumer end router products made by their own company.

Buyers should know, this is a small business grade product and meant to be used only through a robust broadband connection. Amazon.com should make stronger online/advertising notations regarding minimum hardware and network capability to use the camera effectively. End user consumers with marginal highspeed connections - beware, this product is not for you!

Solid Product, More Software Needed for Internet Use

by Bill Berg from Rochester, MN USA on 2010-08-12
The unit operated flawlessly right out of the box and was easy to use within my home LAN. I'm very happy with it's operation.

I've been an operating systems programmer and personal gadget hacker for over 30 years. It was "kinda fun" for me to enable the video over the web, but it took a bit more time than I even enjoy, and no doubt would stymie a lot of people. Since I write software, I ALSO understand that adding this level of functionality to the unit / directions / web site would be daunting since there are so many different scenarios. Basically, you have to:

-- Find and ID the unit on your Router/Modem
-- either use the MAC, naming, fixed IP, or some way to allow you to forward one or more ports
-- IP forward the port(s) through your firewall
-- assuming that you are on some sort of Dynamic IP from your provider (and most of us are), you need to figure out how to make it appear to be a static IP so you can bookmark it.
-- I used [...] ... essentially, they act as a proxy URL and when DNS gives you a new IP, they map to it from the old one.

Using my not very fast upload speed ( ~ 500K bps ), the video is good enough to see how windy it is in the back yard. I have it up from sunup to sundown.

Dont buy if you are a Mac user or want to view video on iPad/iPhone

by Daniel Rayburn from New York, NY United States on 2010-07-29
If you are a Mac user, don't get this camera. The install wizard does not work with Macs. You can only view the video in Explorer or Firefox which means you can't view the video on any Apple device like the iPhone or iPad. Setup instructions are horrible and they tell you to do things like "port forwarding" but then don't explain how to actually do it. Customer support techs are nice, but all of them I spoke to said "I don't know the Mac." Appears Cisco only caters to PC users. Too bad, the camera looks really nice but it's useless if you can't get it to work.

Note to Cisco: The toll-free technical support number you have printed on the setup manual that comes with the camera is wrong. That gives you Cisco's general headquarters, not the tech support number for small business. Takes getting transferred from that number 2x to get to the right place.

Excellent Value

by Paul L. Khanton from New York, New York on 2010-07-12
Great product. This is our fourth WVC210. Outstanding picture clarity. Very reliable. PTZ works great. Cameras have been continually on for over two years. We also own a couple of WVC200 (older model) that have been online continuously for about 3 years. The 210 has significantly improved picture quality and so we only recommend the WVC210.

Solid but not flashy

by Alfred from Minnesota on 2010-04-21
I purchased this PTZ wireless internet camera so I could easily watch my home while away (see how our dog is doing in the kennel). It is satisfactory in this capacity. The "Zoom" is not what I expected. There is no optical zoom, only a 2x digital zoom. This only works inside of the browser plug-in that comes with the device. Doing a 2x zoom produces a very grainy image. In my opinion, this is not desirable. The pan/tilt functions work fine as do the 8 preset positions (note that zoom is not presetable). The unit has a fairly sensitive microphone but the squelch level is not adjustable so medium to soft sounds are full of audio dropouts. Color balance, in automatic mode, has a decidedly greenish tint. After several days of operation, the unit will stop streaming video. Fortunately, a "reset" function can be performed remotely which restores normal operation. Normally I use Internet Explorer to access the camera from the Internet (a special plug-in must be installed within IE). The application software (actually hosted by a computer inside the PTZ) is functional though a bit confusing at times. Presets are defined, modes selected, IP addresses configured, even overlaying date/time on the video feed are all settable. When away from a desktop, I use a program called "IP Cam Viewer" on a Google Nexus smartphone to view streaming images from this camera. No audio is supported on the IP Cam Viewer however I can flip among the pre-established presets. (When the camera pans and tilts, it is fairly noisy. This sound is easily heard by anyone in the room.) My setup consists of the CISCO PTZ camera with a wireless connection to a Linksys wireless router located about 40' away. The router is connected to a cable modem. I opened a port in the router to allow access to the PTZ from the general internet. This all works. One final comment, the "stand" that comes with the unit is non-adjustable and was a real pain. It is designed to hold the PTZ on a desktop so it is angled upwards. I wanted the camera to sit on top of a bookcase and look down into the room. The stand would not allow this position. So I finally had to build my own stand that holds the camera more vertical so I could achieve the downward angle wanted to image the room. Would I buy this again? Probably, but I would take a close look at the marketplace to see what else is there. The misleading claim of zoom capability, the color balance, and inability to preset-with-zoom are drawbacks in my opinion.

no good for NTSC

by Jason J. Perry from portland, or United States on 2010-01-28
Camera is B&W, not color, but the big problem is that the picture rolls. My guess is that it's outputting a PAL signal(whereas it advertises NTSC). If you've got a PAL compatible system, and are willing to gamble, this might do the trick.

Good but needs several improvements

by Generator bill from on 2010-08-30
I purchased the BLC230A and it installed very easily. Then the problems began as my camera dropped its wireless connection frequently. I spent hours with support who I give an A++ to. When I bought a second camera it was much of the same, all and all I spent probably 20 hours with Panasonic Support and Verizon (home router)support. Seems part of the problem was the cheap router Verizon furnishes.
The software sets up very easily but shortly you will learn that the software is very poor and there is almost no instruction or explaination of it. If you set up Motion Alerts, when it senses motion like the dog walks in front of the camera it will send you 10-15 emails with a photo from the camera in each email, then it Deletes them from the camera memory so there is nothing to review. Imagine 4 cameras and someone walking through, 60 email alerts?? If you turn Motion Alerts off it deletes all of the email setting information from the camera setup. To turn Alerts back on you must input all of the email settings again like the SMTP, port, email user name, password, email addresses and more. Could be much easier to allow a feature to turn on and off only without losing the settings.
The power blinked due to a storm and that wiped out the alert memeory also. With more than one camera in the "multi" view mode, often you have to set the refresh rate to 3 seconds rather than immediate or the other camera won't come through. Very noisy motor that moves the lense from side to side.
Panasonic has a great start on a good product but it needs to be tweeked a lot before I could fully recommend it. The best thing is their on-line fully capable software is FREE while Logitech charges $80/year to use their full feature on-line software.

Excellent security camera

by A. Black from Atlanta, GA USA on 2010-08-29
The motion sensitivity of this camera is perfect. I have it pointing out the window of my basement. I have some tall plants about 20-30 feet away, and it correctly does NOT trigger if those plants blow in the breeze; however, if someone walks into the frame (even from 30 feet away) it sets off the motion sensing trigger perfectly. If you get a flickr account, you can get an email address from there and set up your camera to email pics to that address. Then it's really easy to see what the camera has captured. Note: You will probably need to call Panasonic Tech Support to set up the camera unless you really understand routers, but they are very helpful.

Unreliable, Buy an Older Model Instead

by Christopher Crim from San Jose, CA USA on 2010-08-24
Let me start by saying that I've owned a previous generation model BL-C131A for years which has worked great all along. It runs day and night, capturing time lapse and motion and is always accessible and responsive both from inside my home network (based on an Airport Extreme N) and outside my network via port forwarding.

So, I thought it would be nice to have a couple of additional cameras as I like being able to check on my cats and so I bought two of this newer model, BL-C230. Good grief, so much grief! They were a hassle to set up even using a Windows environment and the native software. It took a great deal of fussing and troubleshooting but I finally got them working.... for minutes at a time. Yeah, no kidding. They do sometimes seem to stay up and running for hours or even a few days, but they're incredibly unreliable. You check back and find that one or the other of them have gone off-line again showing an amber light rather than green and being completely unresponsive to web access. I can power them down and get them up and running again but it doesn't last long.

I've tried them both in wireless and wired mode. It seems like the trouble is in wireless mode, as they seem to keep working in wired mode. Meanwhile, the BL-C131A just keeps on humming just fine in wireless mode. I've upgraded these two new ones to the newest firmware but they're still not any more reliable. Next up I'll see if Panasonic tech support can help but from the sound of reviews from other owners, there seems to be one or more serious flaws in these camera's firmware.

Anybody wanna trade their old models for the new ones? ;-)

Connectivity for Apple

by Jean-Manuel Nothias from on 2010-08-05
Thanks to other reviewers for the setting on an Apple Airport. It works fine on my Time Machine home network.
In order not to use a PC, I used the Parallels Desktop software to run the first install.
The only trick there is to make sure that you run the virtual Windows machine in a "bridge networking mode" and not in the shared networking mode (in the device menu/network adapter 1/Bridge networking and there select whatever your network connection is).
After connecting and setting the camera re-configure to the shared networking to allow internet connectivity on both Mac and virtual windows machine.
I will buy few more of these cameras.

Cheers

JMN

BL-C230A Wireless

by sakamoto from on 2010-08-01
I didn't quite believe the wireless problems with this camera that people were seeing until I ran into the problems myself. Bought 2 of these cameras and they arrived as promised just in time for the weekend so I could set them up. I didn't even bother to read the manual/guide; just popped in the CD and ran setup.

The cameras started up in Wired mode and the app could see both cameras and I was able to access them fine. Updated firmware to v4.31R00 (from v4.13R01) using the browser (not from the setup app). Changed IP to Static. Setup Wireless (SSID, WEP). Everything was fine and dandy until it came time to switch to wireless mode. First I unplugged the power from the camera then flipped the switch from Wired to Wireless then plugged the power back in. The camera went thru its usual initializing mode but then the Power LED just kept on flashing in amber and never went to green so that meant it was never ready.

Several things went thru my mind at the time. 1) It couldn't establish wireless connection with the router (wrong WEP key, wrong SSID etc.) 2) It's not compatible with my AirLink N router 3) Static IP conflict...

I then tried pinging the camera's IP and the reply was coming from the IP of the laptop I was using to do the setup (the laptop auto obtains IP and is wireless) which was very strange.

I decided to reset all back to factory default settings and restarted the setup over from scratch - this time I used a Wired PC to do the setup. I went thru the same steps as before this time I made sure to match the Router's SSID exactly caps and all. Keep in mind this camera only supports Open authentication (for WEP).

Switched to Wireless mode again and this time I was relief to see the Power LED went to green. Went to 'Multi-Camera' Setup to add the second camera to the first. Both cams can now be seen side by side in the browser. I also have a Sony SNC-M3W PTZ cam and I thought I could add it to the Panasonic pool. Well it didn't work. Maybe it can be done but this is as far as I got....

Haven't tried accessing the cams from outside my LAN yet but that's just a matter of a couple of ports forwarded.
