Really Cheap but does the job

by W. Remes from North carolina on 2010-08-31
It feels more like a cheap toy, but so it far has functioned fairly well, and mechanically it is pretty easy to use...My main problem is while it is easy to move between the video, camera and playback options the screen is very subject to glare and it is often diffcult to see what option the camera is set to, or what is actaully in the viewfinder when outdoors in the sunlight. That being said, you get what you pay for, and I actually think (since the the cost of this product is so cheap) that this product provides more than one would expect for the cost.

It's cute.

by Lisa Cash from Tucson, Az. on 2010-07-10
The Snapp is kinda cute. I bought it as a gift for me 8 year old niece, but decided to open it up and play with it before hand. It's a good thing I did!
Pros: It's small & compact
Easy to use
No need for the disc that's included.
Cons: The case it comes with is thinner than a regualr sock and half as protective.
You HAVE to purchase an SD card in order to use it,it wont allow you to take pics/video without it.

It feels kinda cheap in your hand but I think it's because it's lighter than I had anticipated. Over all, easy to use, great for a kid or someone just looking for a cheap camcorder:) I would totaly buy this again for my niece or even as a cheap toy for myself. Buy an SD card and a case if you'll need it adn it's a great buy!

Description

The Panasonic HDCSD10 features a 16x optical zoom. You can zoom close to catch dynamic shots of distant objects. And because the zoom is optical, there's limited image degradation. Also, Panasonic's Advanced O.I.S. helps prevent blurring - typically a big concern when shooting with a zoom. This combination of optical zoom and Advanced O.I.S. gives you the ability to take fantastic zoom shots. You get all the beauty and minimal blurring. There's nothing more disappointing than shooting a once-in-a-lifetime event on video, only to discover that the images are blurry or poorly exposed because of backlighting. Panasonic's iA helps avoid problems in difficult shooting situations by automatically making the optimal camera settings and activating certain functions. For example, iA now includes AF Tracking, a new function that "locks" on and follows a subject as it moves, so images are sharply focused and properly exposed. This technology is a huge help for everyone. HD images contain 6 times as much information as standard images. HDTV has 1,080 horizontal scan lines, SDTV has 480. That translates into much higher resolution and much finer detail. With HD images on an HDTV, pictures are so clear and sharp that you can see textures. The shift in the industry from SDTV to HDTV is well underway. For shooting once-in-a-lifetime scenes that you want to capture in full beauty, the Panasonic HDCSD10 camcorder is the best choice. Image Sensor (Total) - 1/6 MOS Focal Length - 2.95-47.2mm 35mm Film Camera Equivalent - 44.1-706mm [16 - 9] Filter Diameter - 30.5mm Lens Type - Panasonic Still Picture Recording - Yes; 2.1 M (1920 x 1080) [16 - 9] Recording Mode - HA (17Mbps/VBR) (1920 x 1080), HG (13Mbps/VBR) (1920 x 1080), HX (9Mbps/VBR) 1920 x 1080), HE (6Mbps/VBR) (1440 x 1080) Light - LED Video Light, Flash, 1400 Lux (1/30 Low Light Mode)

Features

  • Captures 1080p HD video
  • Super-compact design; weighs only 1/2 pound
  • Intelligent Auto mode takes the guess-work out of recording and allows anyone to record picture perfect moments
  • 16x Optical Image Stabilized zoom with Active mode anticipates your movement to correct jitters and shakes and allow smooth movement when recording

Great camcorder. Easy to use. Great HD quality. Just wish battery lasted longer. Gets about 1:30 on highest quality.

Good HD camcorder

by Anthony Ramirez from on 2010-06-26
This is my first HD camcorder. I bought this back in Nov 2009 for $250. It has been an excellent product with a few annoyances.

Pros -
1) Small size, the size of a soft drink can. A HUGE plus!!!
2) Cheap price at the time, same as SD camcorders.
3) Great video quality, especially outdoors in daylight.

Cons -
1) Wide angle lens (44.1) NOT wide enough. Must keep backing up to get the subjects in view.
2) Lens Cover is internal but is manual. Easy to forget to close.
3) Focuses on the wrong thing sometimes and take a while to fix itself.
4) Included Video light is of limited use. Although Flash seems to work well in pictures.
5) Low light performance (indoor/night) while not great is OK.
6) Will shear video if you pan quickly.
7) Flimsy strap just feels wrong, could be better.
8) When you copy footage to PC both Videos and Pictures are stored in a directory in "My Videos" instead of putting the Pictures in "My Pictures". HDWriter software issue.

If you are looking into buying this I would recommend getting the Panasonic HDC-SD60K SD Based Hi-Def Camcorder with 35X Intelligent Zoom (Black) instead since it is under $400 and has an automatic lens cover, bigger CMOS chip, wider and longer zoom and mic is in front instead of top. The HDC-SD60 wasn't available when I bought this.

I am using a 16GB SD card and have only ran out of space once when I forgot to format the card after I copied it to the PC. I will get a back up card. The battery works great but I just ordered the VW-VBG130 battery so I can have a back-up. Am seriously considering getting a 0.5x Digital Wide Angle Macro Professional Series Lens+ Lenspen + 5 Pc Cleaning Kit + DB ROTH Micro Fiber Cloth For The Panasonic HDC-DX1, HDC-HS9, HDC-SX5, HDC-SD1, HDC-SD5, HDC-SD9 High Definition Camcorders to help.

Summary
This is a great little Low-End camcorder much better than the Entry-Level "Flip" type camcorders. Even though I have a lot of Cons I really do like the camera for the price. Don't spend more than $350 on this you can move up to a better one for that price.

Weigh the Pros and Cons carefully

by Michael Bock from Irvine, CA United States on 2010-03-03
First, the two versions of this camera are identical other than the fact that one has built in memory, the other does not. BUT, consider how much you're paying for that memory? Could you just buy a larger card with the price difference? Probably. Considering that for the sake of convenience you will probably be recording to cards most of the time (so you can just plug them into the computer) I would probably go for the internal memory-less version.

I ran several tests on the camera for a few days to try out its features. I am not a name-brand fanboy, nor am I a dedicated videophile. I'm just going to give you an unbiased impression based upon what my eyes saw:

PROS:

1.)Pretty good daylight recording. Considering what I paid for it, I was surprised by the quality. It's not a Canon S10 by any means, but I was pleased.
2.)It is unbelievably small and light. Shockingly so. If you are looking for the smallest possible 1080p capable camera to take on a daylight hike, I'm thinking this is near the top of the list.
3.)Has a few of the bells and whistles of a larger camera, including the ability to swap out memory cards, a decent touch-screen menu interface where you can play with the settings (as opposed to some of these cheap-o cameras), a genuine optical zoom, and an HDMI output right on the camera. Unlike most, I had no problem with the touchscreen.
4.)Quick power-on/off feature works really well, battery life was not a problem.

CONS:

1.)You'll notice I mentioned how surprised I was by the camera's performance in daylight? I was equally surprised by the nighttime/indoor performance. As in, it was atrocious. Absolutely atrocious. We're talking awful pixelation, terrible graininess, significant artifacting and block-iness, and a general inability to see anything. The onboard light provided little help. I'm not talking about near pitch black rooms, I'm talking about normally lit indoor areas. The camera is basically useless for indoor or nighttime recording unless you're using multiple floodlights. I would walk through the house, and even our well lit dining room had significant problems.

I chalk this up to the tiny sensor (less than 2 megapixels) and tiny lens. Sure, it keeps the weight/size factor miniscule, but it really hurts performance. I am not understating this problem, at all. I tried to use the manual shuttings (such as they are) to correct the problem, but playing with frame rates, settings, and modes made little to no difference.

2.)No built-in lens protector. Having a dangling lenscap to annoy you defeats some of the purpose of having such a compact, easy to whip out camera.

3.)Screen tearing/rolling shudder is a problem on quick pans, even more so than other CMOS cameras I've tried. I'm not sure what the issue is, but be forewarned.

4.)The cameras awful low light capabilities make most of the individualized settings useless.

5.)If you want to make that final jump from 1080i to 1080p, you're limited to the 24fps "digital cinema" mode that disables the vast majority of the manual settings. A small nitpick, but somewhat annoying.

SUMMARY

Know precisely what you're going to be using this camera for before you buy it. The video quality in daylight for the price is pretty decent, the form factor/size is phenomenal, and the indoor/low light video quality and options are horrendous. Basically, if you're only going to be using it outdoors, and size is of paramount important, it's worthy of consideration.

Camcorder

by Jerry T. Johnson from Jonesborough TN USA on 2010-03-03
Advertisement was somewhat misleading. It states that you can record to twin memory which means to me that you have dual slots for SD cards or one sd card and one hard drive etc.
What it really has is one sd slot which can read either standard sd or sd/hc card.
The quality is good but it is still very hard to see the image in bright outdoor conditions since there is no viewfinder, just the lcd screen. It would be worth extra money to have a viewfinder.
Overall it is as good or better thab any of the camcorders that it looked at.

USB Connection Issues

by Randy Stanfield from on 2010-08-29
Just bought a NIB GZ-MG630SU camcorder online after reading most of the reviews being very good except one. Talking about not being able to upload. Thought it was just a fluke or user didn't know how to follow instructions. But now I'm in the same boat. I like the ease of use and picture clarity. But not being able to upload them to the computer or create DVD from defeats the pupose. JVC's web support hasn't been very good to this point either.

Does anyone have any suggestion for getting the device to show up in Win/XP SP3 please let me know.

Very difficult to download to a PC

by Kendra E. Williams from Rockville, MD on 2010-06-06
The video quality, size and durability of the camera is good. However, that does not do you any good if you cannot get the files easily onto your computer. The user manual gives you options for uploading to YouTube, making an iTunes video, or making a DVD. However it does not address what to do if you simply want to put them on your PC. I am very computer saavy and have been very frustrated with their software. The software that comes with it is horrible and not user friendly. Their instructions in the user manual are very unclear. I've found a way to copy them from the device onto my PC, reorganize them, and then edit them in Windows Movie Maker. However, it takes time and it is not what I wanted from a nice video camera. I'm probably going to sell mine and find something that's more user friendly.

JVC Everio Gz-MG630RU Gives You Poor Quality Video

by Carl Franciose from Flanders, NJ USA on 2010-02-20
I barrowed this camera to help out a friend record at a party and created a DVD of the event for them. To my surprise the video quality was at VHS tape standard. I thought the camera was a High Definition at first but found out later it was not. The logo on the camera HDD is misleading. I own a Canon VIXIA HG20 and the difference between them is night and day. If I were to record in my lowest quality with the Canon HD20 it is still better then the ultra fine mode of this JVC camera. The camera comes with a small light which is absolutely worthless unless you are in a completely dark room. By the way, the camera light does not act as a flash, so if you take still pictures, you better make sure you are in a well lighted area. I guess you get what you pay for, so I am glade I have my Canon HD20. So if you are looking for good digital quality video, your are not going to get it with this camera.

Nice Video camera in a small Package

by Jose Nieto from North Carolina on 2010-08-20
The video quality in this camera is good, I like the compactness and ease of use as well. the capability to take pictures is almost an afterthought, you need absolutely perfect lighting or you'll end up with a barely discernible photo. There are not many options are setting to tweak so this should only be bought by someone that wants to point and shoot video.

Love this Camera

by L. Tate from Tacoma, WA on 2010-08-19
I love the size of this camera and that it fits well into my hand. I know it's not the highest quality video that I could get, but really for the money, I get to record all of my toddler's good times. The color is a fun bonus too :)

Decent, but could use some tuning up.

by HostileHST from Oregon, USA on 2010-08-11
Battery life is horrible, less than an hour when using it in 720p mode. 1080p mode is very grainy, but I expected that. Focus, well, sure wish they had a manual one cause it could be adjusted a tiny bit and be pretty decent. Macro is great, but man, you have to hold real steady to keep it in focus. All in all, we still like the cam despite it's short comings.

Nice Camera only missing interchangable batteries.

by flb13156 from Virginia, USA on 2010-08-11
I like this camera. The video quality is nice at 720 at 60 frames per second. It's super compact and easy to carry. Forget using the digital zoom it just degrades the image quality. The buttons work fine as you get used to them. The negatives include 1.Not so good in low light but all these
super compacts suffer from that and you can't expect to shoot in no light and get a good video with any camera. 2.Sometimes impossible to see the screen in daylight. 3.The digital Zoom it needs a optical one. 4.No interchangable battery and this is why I gave it a 4 instead of a 5. I could live with all the other negatives but not including a interchangable battery is a no no. The included battery charges quickly but I just don't know how long it will last before the camera needs to be replaced. We will see. For what it is, kind of a toy it does a good job of producing
quality video. Yes it could be better but for what I paid $79.99 I can live with it's shortcoming's.

Very satisfied with Camera/Camcorder

by G. Harper from Georgia on 2010-08-11
I bought a few low end camcorders in the past, the kind that takes 3 AAA batteries and they drin so fast. I saw this and it seemed to be nicely built and a mid class unit. I like it has HDMI out as well as AV out to watch on tv. Ofcourse it has your usual SD card slot.
Easy to get used to and figure out. Takes good pics, a tad on shaky side so youi have to hold the cam tight when snapping a pic. The Camcorder is better. I threw in a 2 GB SD card. on 1080 it only gives me 30 mins to record, but on VGA mode I get almost 2 hours, very good qaulity even at that setting. There is a lower setting QVGA which I have 5 1/2 hours of video record time. I think I'll buy a 4 or 8 GB card (it will take up to 32 GB).
Very please with the unit. Small and flat, easy to carry around. Not much bigger than a cell phone really. If you want a decent camcorder for under $100...i'd day go with this one.

Panasonic SDR-S50K

by Franklin Crosby Brown from USA on 2010-08-30
I purchased this camera to replace my Sony Digital 8, which recently stopped working after 5 years of continual use. This camera cost half as much as my Digital 8 but keep in mind that cameras no longer have all the moving parts, video head, etc., which adds to the cost. Panasonic is also a good name brand so I decided to give this camera a try.

The professional reviews say that the picture quality is OK but users who owned the SDR-S50 had samples on YouTube that, to me, looked better than OK. Many more owners of this camera gave it a good review. Apparently, the professional reviews were correct. The quality may be acceptable if you are just using it for web videos, but if you are using it for videos that you plan to burn to a DVD and watch on a larger television screen, the quality is very poor.

To me, the SDR-S50 was not suitable for videos that I want to preserve for many years. I eventually returned this camera and purchsed a high definition camera which cost a little more than my old Digital 8 but with picture quality that exceeded my Digital 8. The picture quality of the SDR-S50, as compared to my Digital 8 camera, left much to be desired.

Don't waste your money!!

by Dawn Dilley from Little River, SC on 2010-07-12
I "upgraded" from my Panasonic Mini-DV camera. Big mistake. My main use for this camera is taping dance competitions, inside. The camera has no light (which I didn't notice until I got it out of the box -- my fault) but even the low-light setting produced TERRIBLE video. Even outside it is not as crisp and clear as my old camera.
Besides the Panasonic name, the reason I purchased this camera is that it is compatible with iMovie. I previously purchased a Sony camcorder and the clerk at Best Buy neglected to tell me that it wasn't compatible with a Mac even though I had told her that I did a lot of video editing on my MAC. Took the Sony back and got the Panasonic. I don't know if I can return this as I have it for a couple of months but it is useless for what I need. I realize I should have checked out the camcorder before I really needed it but I waited and now it may be too late.
I'm going back to Best Buy and see what they say.
I don't want to go to an HD camcorder because they cost too much and use so much memory when editing on my computer.

The only reason I gave this camcorder 2 stars is because it is very light, attractive, has great zoom and easy-to-use menu. But that doesn't make up for the poor video quality.
Very disappointed with Panasonic.

Excelent product nice service

by Jesus Sanchez Avina from Saltillo, Coahuila Mexico on 2010-06-13
Excelent camera, excelent video quality. Amazing ease of use. Only downsize: lack of built in light, other than that awesome camera =)

really bad picture!!

by Christopher D. Arnould from on 2010-05-29
this camera's pictur quality is soooo very bad. my cell phone takes better video. also the included software is not compatible with windows 7 or vista 64 bit. had alot of possibilities but pic quality just kills this camera.

pretty good

by K. Bischoff from on 2010-05-24
I like the camera but have a major problem with the software that comes with it. The camera records in an MOD format that is not compatable with my video editing software and windows media player. Videosuite 2.0 is very limited in what it will do and I was informed by Panasonic that I can have videosuite 3.0 if I want to pay for it. Yeh right! I would've never bought this camera if I knew what a hassle it would be to work with my video files.

SDR-H80 Review

by Matthew M. Jackson from Cleveland OH on 2010-05-18
Camera is a little small for my hand but was a gift for my wife and fits hers like a glove. She loves it and it is easy to use. Found two downfalls with the camera, no light so you can't film in dark places... not a huge deal breaker and the second is that the software does not seem to be windows 7 compatible. Other than that I have found this to be a great camera for the price and excellent zoom capability and tons of features.

A MUST HAVE Item!

by Gabriel from Miami, FL on 2010-09-01
This is a great accessory for those who plan to film a lot or go to frequents travels with a camcorder because in those situations the included battery will not last long enough. For all the mentioned models in the product description (plus some others that I will mention at the end) you do NOT need the optional Battery Pack Holder Kit VW-VH04. In continues recording using Time-Lapse Mode you get close to 5 hours out of it (LCD closed), and in regular recording modes, like filming the Sunset in a tripod you get close to 4 hours, in a conventional recording situations when you turn ON and OFF the camcorder, Zoom IN and OUT a lot of times and having the LCD open you may not get the full 3 hours but it gets very close.

To me this is a MUST HAVE item.

Great Price

by MaChiBLue from Chicago on 2010-01-10
Bought this extra battery for the Panasonic HDC-HS250-K HHD HD Camcorder I bought for my father. It does indeed work for the HS250, and the price is alot cheaper here than ordering directly from Panasonic. I haven't really encountered any problems with it, and it does last roughly 3 hours.

Panasonic VW-VBG260 3 hour battery

by Zoomed from on 2009-11-11
Its heavier than the one 1 hour battery that comes with the camera and makes the camera back heavy. Other than the weight, it packs a lotta juice for hours of recording!

you don't get 3 hrs out of this battery

by Peter J. Lelievre from usa on 2009-06-29
I have 2 of these battery's and i've shot 3 event's and i'm finding
that i get about 2 hrs out of these batterys with zooming in and out for most of my event.

It's a battery

by Frivolous Spender from Dublin on 2009-05-03
It's a battery. It's higher capacity and it's quite a bit deeper than the standard battery so it sticks out at the back of the camcorder. Significantly extends the record duration - which is what you buy it for really. You'd probably get tired holding the camcorder before the battery died. Charges relatively quickly on the SD9 camcorder charger with no special adapters.

Good one for fun video recording on the fly

by Dan.Wygant.org from Nashville on 2010-08-30
I bought this specifically for my sons to record for YouTube. They love it! (search for Cummins Air to find my son John Wygant and his videos - the newer ones will be frmo this video)
I choose this based on having hi-def video and low cost.
In addition, all the reviews on various sites - here, epinions, elsewhere - they ALL claimed all pro's and very few con's. I mean it's a great and inexpensive camera.

I was worried it may be bulky, but it's "PALM SIZED" for crying out loud! I saw it in my 17 yr old's hand and was shocked and how unreal cool this small camera looked.

It's also got all the software you need, plus the ability to post srtaight to youtube.

What's reeeeeally great is I found it in an auction on ebay, then came to amazon for a price compare. I was happy! Amazon beat ebay auction, and I didn't have to wait. Frequently too I get it with no S&H cost.

So overall, GREAT price (thanks Amazon) and GREAT resolution! What a freaky fantastic deal. Perfect camera... for any occasion. But 100% the right choice for making YouTube videos.

BTW, I'll also borrow it to record instructional videos for my new site - just starting - [...] - telling how to develop with Visual Studio dot-Net 2010 and the entire 2010 stack including Silverlight 4 and SharePoint 2010.

Have fun with this camera. It is the right choice.

Panasonic Camcorder

by Stacy from on 2010-08-11
My Husband bought me this camcorder for my birthday and I loved the small size. I was able to fit it in the same bag as my regular camera. But the quality of pictures and video's it took was something to be desired. The pictures were always grainy and I could never get it to work outdoors.

Well I didn't use it much, maybe 5 times and I went to use it on my Son's Birthday and the shutter would not open. So I called customer service and spent like 2 months trying to find a service center to fix it and every time that I called back they would give me another location to try. I begged for a mail in service center. Finally after months of trying they gave me a claim number and an address to send it in. Well guess what. My warranty is now up and I have to pay $160 to fix the camera that my husband paid $200 or so for. So I not to happy and will never buy this brand again.

horrible picture quality

by cardsfan451 from on 2010-07-15
Video looks like 1970's era 8mm film that got wet. Low light footage even worse.

Great camcorder with very good 70X optical zoom

Great compact camcorder.

Good Sunlight Camera

by M. Temple from Farmerville, LA on 2010-06-07
Quick Delivery. Easy startup. 2.5-3hr battery life. Super outside/sunlight/beach videos. Simple playback/copy to PC. Average Video Software provided for PC. Audio is good. Great Values for price.

This is not a HD camera. Lower quality videos than my Sony handy-cam 8mm. Poor low light/insight light video. Poor= grainy, dark, time to focus. View screen does not Swivel.

Overall this camera meets my needs and the budget I had set aside. I love the SD card portability, ease of use, lightweight, size. Just be aware of what this camera can and can't do well.

FYI - my indoor videos are keepers and have been cut to DVD, just grainy, especially on a HD tv.
